Peter Slavid's CD of The Year

The Dorf is an occasional big-band based in Dortmund, and has been below the radar for most jazz commentators, but it grabbed my attention the moment I first heard it, and I’ve been playing it ever since.  It’s anarchic, it rocks, and it’s great fun.

 

They describe themselves as a village where people come and go, but retain a sense of identity.  They play monthly in Dortmund jazz Club led by composer Jan Klare and the record is available from Leo Records.
