Peter Slavid

peter
Peter Slavid has been following modern Jazz for over 40 years. In that time he has always looked for jazz that reflects a view forward to the modern and the new. He spent the 70s listening to artists like Ornette Coleman, Brotherhood of Breath and Evan Parker. His all-time favourite artists still include Carla Bley, Hermeto Pascoal and The Art Ensemble of Chicago. Here in Europe he likes Django Bates, Louis Sclavis, Instabile, Octurn and lots of the great young British jazz musicians who he hopes to introduce to ukjazzradio. Peter also enjoys other music outside the mainstream including world and folk music, and is fascinated by jazz that is influenced by latin, indian, african and european folk music as well as jazz at the fringes of rock and classical music. For the last 5 years Peter has worked on a voluntary basis with the F-IRE collective, one of the groups of young British Jazz musicians who are creating new music with a range of influences. The various collectives springing up around UK and Europe are generating so much exciting music and many of them will feature in Peter’s programmes. Peter is a regular at London’s Vortex jazz Club, at Bath and Cheltenham Jazz Festivals and for many years was one of the Chief Stewards at Brecon. Peter’s programmes will focus on the young innovative British and European jazz musicians who make the current jazz scene so vibrant and exciting. More details at www.myspace.com/peterslavid
